Mitral Valve Reconstruction in Mitral Valve Regurgitation

Abstract


This study included 30 patients who have undergone MV
repair for acquired MVD during the period from January
1997 to December 1998 at Nasr City Insurance Hospital and'
Ain Shams Hospital in cardiac surgery departments'
The age of the patients ranged from 7 to 26 years with a mean age of (13 years), 8 patients (26.7%) were males and 22
patients (73.3%) were females.
In this study 73.3% of the patients in the pediatric group and 73.3% of the patients are females.
The main etiology of the valvular pathology was the rheumatic heart disease 100%. The mitral lesion was pure chronic mitral regurgitation in 22 patients (73.3%), mitral reg).lrgitation and stenosis in 6 patients (20%) and mitral and tricuspid regurge in two patient (6.7%).
Concomitant function tricuspid valve regurgitation was found in two patient only. Preoperative NYHA class was 6.7% of patients in class II, 63.3% were in class III and 30% of patients were in class IV.
After 6 'months postoperatively 79.3% of patients become in class I, 6.9% of patients were in class II, 6.9% were in class III and 6.9% were in NYHA class IV.
