A STUDY OF ACUTE HAND INJURIES

Mohamed Mostafa Kotb;

Abstract

The wrist and hand are vulnerable areas to different varieties of injuries especially in rural areas as in our community. Great care and highlighting the importance of primary care and proper management by specialized hand surgeon have been advised.
• Traumatic carpal instability of the wrist is defined as a carpal injury in which loss of normal alignment of the carpal bones develops early or late. There are two types of carpal abnormalities the first can be clearly recognized on routine radiograph by loss of normal alignment of carpal bones, and called static. The second type, the dynamic type, where the instability appears only by voluntary movement or by manipulation.
• Fractures of the hand are very common injuries that demand early recognition and treatment. The majority of fractures can be treated with closed methods. Recognition of those injuries that require operative treatment and prompt attention to detail and surgical technique will prevent many of the complications associated with these frequently encountered problems.
