Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) for Municipal Wastewater Treatment
Aly Al Sayed Ahmed Mohamed Alaneny;
Abstract
Egypt like many other countries in the Middle East is
facing water shortage. Fresh water resources are limited mainly
to: the Nile River, groundwater from both renewable and nonrenewable
aquifers, limited rainfall along the northern coast and
flash floods in the Sinai Peninsula. To augment its water
resources, wastewater reclamation and reuse has been included
in the water budget of the country. The challenge facing the
implementation of this strategy is the low coverage with
sanitation systems and the contamination of the treated
wastewater with pathogenic organisms.
