Abstract
The present study was carried out to investigate the changes in blood serum constituents associated with some post partum ovarian inactivity in Egyptian buffaloes.
A total of 20 female buffaloes examined at Reproduction Institute Research (Giza). Based on the history and clinical examination, the animals were classified into 2 groups according to their reproductive performance. The first group of (10) buffaloes had normally cycling ovaries, without pathological affection in the genital tract and with normal parturition. The second group of (10) buffaloes had post partum ovarian inactivity, they were without pathological affection in the genital tract, but revealed no structures on ovaries, and were inactive for about 3-9 months postpartum.
Blood samples for serum separation were taken from normal and post partum ovarian inactivity buffaloes for determination of serum total proteins, serum enzymes (ALT and AST), glucose, blood urea nitrogen, ketone bodies, total cholesterol, triglycerides, macroelements (calcium, phosphorus, Ca!P ratio), trace elements (copper, zinc, selenium) as well as hormones (progesterone, triiodothyronine and insulin).
