Role of Color Doppler Ultrasound In Diagnosis Of Ovarian Masses

Rania Saleh El-Said Mohamed;

Abstract

The definitive diagnosis of an ovarian mass presents a common problem in gynecologic patients. If the clinician could accurately differentiate a malignant from a benign mass. Patients with masses believed to be malig;nant could seek proper oncologic consultation preoperatively.

Transvaginal color Doppler ultrasongraphy combines improved anatomic resolution affordeq by high frequency transvaginal transducers with pathophysiologic evaluation of blood flow within the uterus and adnexa. It simultaneously evaluates the morphologic aspects of an area of interest and by Doppler interrogation of specific vessels can depict the relative impedance and velocity of flow within the vessels examined. This makes possible the differentiation of vascular beds containing normal arteriole of muscular media (resulting relatively in high impeclance, low velocity flow) from tumor beds with arteriovenous shunting and vessels with a paucity of muscular media (resulting in low impedance, high velocity flow)
