THE EFFECT OF LIVER METASTASES ON THE PORTAL BLOOD FLOW AND HEPATO-CELLULAR FUNCTIONS

Abstract


The present study was done to study the effect of liver metastases on the portal blood flow and liver cell function in comparison with liver cirrhosis.

• Fourty subjects were included in this study and classified into 4 groups:


"' Gr. 1: Included 10 patients with liver metastases on top of normal liver.

.. Gr. II: Included 10 normal subjects.

.. Gr. Ill: Included 10 patients with cirrhotic liver.

.. Gr. IV: Included 10 patients with liver metastases on top

of cirrhotic liver.

All subjects were evaluated clinically and by laboratory

investigations for diagnosis and classification of patients. The clinical evaluation included full history taking and through physical examination, while laboratory evaluation included the following investigations. Liver function tests including serum total protein, serum albumin, serum bilirubin, serum alkaline phosphatase., serum ALTand serum AST as wel as prothrombin time and concentration.
