A comparative study on the effect of iontophoresis on fluoride acquisition of primary and permanent enamel in Egyptian children using sodium fluoride and acidulated phosphate fluoride solutions
Hany Ahmed Hassan El Gamal;
Abstract
This study was designed to point out the effect of two fluoride solutions on fluoride acquisition by primary and permanent enamel of Egyptian children by 2 methods: the conventional topical fluoride application and topical fluoride application enhanced by iontophoresis.
The study sample consisted of 40 children from the outpatient clinic of pedodontic department faculty of oral and dental medicine, Cairo university. From these patients and after clinical examination 40 primary maxillary central incisors and 40 permanent maxillary central incisors were selected .Each of the primary central incisors and the permanent central incisors were divided into 4 groups. Each group consisted of 10 teeth:
Group (1) treated with sodium fluoride (NaF) solution using topical application only.
Group(2) treated with acidulated phosphate fluoride (APF)
solution using topical application only.
Group (3) treated with sodium fluoride (NaF) solution using
iontophoretic topical application.
Group (4) treated with acidulated phosphate fluoride (APF)
solution using iontophoretic topical application.
