Clinical Evaluation of The Interseptal Alveolotomy Technique For Closure of Oro-Antral Fistulae

Abstract


Eight patients were included in this study; they were selected from the out - patient clinic, Oral Surgery Department, Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine, Cairo University.
The present clinical study aimed to evaluate the interseptal alveolotomy technique for patients with O.A.F.
• Patient's sample consisted of seven males and one female.
Six cases presented with small fistulae. The other two cases

presented with relatively large fistulae.

Each patient was examined both clinically and radiographically for healing of the oral defect and antral perforation for 12 weeks post-operatively.
The surgical corrections were done under local anesthesia without any complications.
Clinically, all the cases healed uneventfully except one case that failed by the 12 day post-operatively.
All the patients were followed-up clinically and radiographically for 12 weeks post-operatively. Periapical radiographs revealed fine trabeculation at the fistula site in all cases. Panoramic radiographs revealed clear antra formation of new bone trabeculae.
