EVALUATION OF INTESTINAL MICROFLORA GROWTH IN PATIENTS WITH ATOPIC DISEASES

Abstract


Recent publications raise the question of an association between intestinal microflora (lactobacillus GG) imbalance and the development of atopic diseases. Are the clinical manifestations of atopic diseases associated with deficient intestinal microflora (lactobacillus GG) growth?

Is there a significant difference between different types of atopic diseases (bronchial asthma, allergic rhinitis and atopic skin diseases) as regard the intestinal microflora growth (stool lactobacillus GG)?

Is there an association between the severity of atopic diseases and the count of stool lactobacillus GG?

So, the aim of this study was to elucidate these questions and to evaluate the possibility of using probiotics as a line of management of patients with atopic diseases due to food allergy.

Results:

We found:

• Marked reduction in the count of stool lactobacillus GG in all patients groups (atopic diseases due to food allergy) in comparison with the normal control subjects. The reduction was highly significant statistically (P
