A STUDY OF PROGNOSTIC FACTORS IN ADULTHOOD ACUTE LEUKEMIAS REVEALED BY SURFACE MARKERS & DNA ANALYSIS

Maha Ibrahim Ismael ibrahim;

Abstract

The aim of the present work is to study some prognostic factors revealed to have impacts on treatment outcome and survival of adult acute leukemias patients (AML) and (ALL). Thirty patients with AML and fifteen patients with ALL were included. The median follow up of our patients was seven months. 50% of AML patients and 33% of ALL patients died during the study. Surface markers as a prognostic factors have no impact on the disease response and survival. So', they can be used only for the purpose of correction of diagnoses not as a prognostic factors. P 53 is a good prognostic indicator of survival in AML patients when not expressed. MDR when highly expressed in ALL patients have poor prognosis on treatment out come and survival. Bcl2 has a bad prognosis on both treatment outcome and survival when highly expressed in both AML and ALL patients. Lastly cytogenetic markers are one of the most important factors that have an impact on both response to treatment and survival of adult patients with acute leukemia either AML or ALL.
