Abstract


SUMMAHY


Drinking water is one of the most critical issues in Egypt that has been taken seriously by the government. The Egyptian government adopted a very promising plan to introduce clean drinking water to every single population in Egypt even small and remote ones. Therefore, the government established many compact systems for drinking water treatment all over the cmmtry in addition to the conventional systems in large cities and small filteration systems these built in villages.

The objectives of the current study are to conduct a comparative evaluation among the three different systems of water purification, existing in lsmailia governorate on physical, chemical and bacteriological basis. Eight drinking water treatment plants were selected for the present investigation; lsmailia city, El-Kantara Gharb plant and Fayed drinking water treatment plants, are conventional systems. While, El-Tall EI-Kabier, Abu Soir and EI­ Kantara Shark drinking water treatment plants are compact systems. Sarabium and Abu Kalifa drinking water treatment plants are small filteration systems.

All the eight plants were selected to cover five central regions within lsmailia governorate represent the three ditferent systems known for drinking water treatment.

Three samples well taken from each of the eight plants over a seven­ months period. One sample fi•om Inlet site, a second fi•om pre-chlomation and a third from the outlet site.
