Abstract

Graves' disease is the most frequent cause of hyperthyroidism in iodine sufficient countries. Once Graves' disease is suspected clinically & laboratory the fundamental goal is to establish the diagnosis and to differentiate it from the other causes of hyperthyroidism.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the role of both CFDS and scintigraphy in diagnosing Graves' disease , to differentiate it from other causes of hyperthyroidism &-to assess the changes occurring in the gland during the course of the disease.

Our study group consisted of 15 patients with Graves' disease.

Scintigraphic examination as well as CFD &
conventional sonography were performed:
.. -•• *The sonographic examination of the gland was recorded.
* The CFD patterns were categorized into pattern 0, I, II
& III.
*The PSV & RI values were noted.
* Scintiscan was performed in all the cases. The results showed that:
All Graves' patients had a diffuse increased uptake on isotopic scan with uneven distribution.
