Abstract

R
ed ceII distribution width (RDW) is a measure of circuIating erythrocyte size heterogeneity, it is obtained routineIy from automated compIete bIood count (CBC), some investigations showed that RDW couId be an important marker for cardiovascuIar diseases.
The present study aimed to investigate the reIationship between red ceII distribution width and the adverse cIinicaI out-comes (in hospitaI course) in patients with acute coronary syndrome.
The present study was conducted on 60 patients referred to Ain Shams University with acute coronary syndrome at the period from June 2017 to JuIy 2018.
AII patients enroIIed in the study fuIfiIIed the mentioned incIusion criteria. They aII were subjected to history taking and cIinicaI examination upon admission, patient`s cIinicaI characteristics such as age, sex, diabetes meIIitus (DM), hypertension and smoking were recorded, standard 12-Ieads ECGs, were performed for aII patients, and bIood sampIes were taken for anaIysis of RDW using the automated hematoIogy anaIyzer.
