Abstract
Morbidity and mortality due to diabetes mellitus (DM) result in an exorbitant psycho-economical cost, so that there is a strong need to create new strategies and drugs for controlling DM. Pterocarpus santalinus (red sandalwood) is one of the medicinal plants used in traditional medicine and is rich in flavonoids and phenols. The aim of the current study was to investigate the anti-diabetic effect of the aqueous extract of the Pterocarpus santalinus on streptozotocin (STZ)-induced DM as compared to glustin (pioglitazone).
