Treatment of Blount's disease by temporary hemiepiphysiodesis using eight plate Systematic review

Abstract


Nine published studies involving a total of 130 patients ( 213 limbs ) were suitable for inclusion in the present systematic review. This review carried out to list the results of temporary hemi-epiphysiodesis by 8-plate in treatment of Blount's disease (tibia vara) regarding perioperative complications(wound infection , joint effusion , stiffness and knee pain), implant related complications (extrusion, migration, implant failure and fracture), growth related complications (over correction, rebound phenomenon, additional deformity and physeal arrest).
At first we discussed the following:
Review of literature including the relevant anatomy and biomechanics of the knee joint followed by the pathogenesis and management of Blount's disease.
Then we discussed the systematic review that deal with the results of temporary hemi-epiphysiodesis by 8-plate in treatment of Blount's disease (tibia vara) as the following:
• literature search and publication selection according to the inclusion criteria.
• appraisal of the studies for validity , relevance and results of surgical interventions .
• Data extraction from studies; number of patients, age of patients, follow up time and complications .
