Abstract


There are many methods for induction of labor that involve Amniotomy, Oxytocin, use of prostaglandins, ancillary outpatient procedures that may involve membrane stripping, breast stimulation and other methods (Grobman, 2018).
The purpose of the present study is to evaluate the effect of Oral Propranolol plus Oxytocin in comparison with Oxytocin alone on induction of labor.
This study is a double blind randomized controlled trial performed in labor ward of Ain Shams maternity Hospital in Cairo, Egypt from August 2016 to August 2018, on 211 primigravidas with uncomplicated term pregnancies. They were divided in two groups.
As regards women in group A (Propranolol plus Oxytocin group = 106) before the use of Oxytocin, 20 mg Propranolol was administrated orally and then the Oxytocin was initiated. Their Mean (±SD) of age 21.69(±3.18), BMI 23.15(±3.91), gestational age 40.26(±0.46), expected fetal weight 3082.08(±411.05) and bishop score 5.75(±0.8).
