Angiographic study of internal pudendal artery in patients with erectile dysfunction and ischemic heart disease

Abstract

Atherosclerosis is a chronic systemic disease that affects multiple areas of the arterial tree.
Manifestations of atherosclerosis depend on the site affected, severity and the size of the affected blood vessel.
Atherosclerosis affects the internal pudendal arteries leading to erectile dysfunction before it affects the coronary arteries.
This study included 20 male patients with ED, who were selected from the andrology clinic after being scheduled to undergo cardiac catheterization. After fulfilling the inclusion criteria, all the patients were subjected to full history taking, general examination, evaluation of the erectile state using IIEF, risk factor assessment and angiographic study.
In the present study, our results indicated a highly significant negative correlation (P=0.0001) between IIEF score and the percent of obstruction affecting right, left & mean internal pudendal artery (IPA). IIEF score also correlated with the degree of obstruction affecting coronary arteries, showing a negative significant correlation between IIEF score and right coronary artery percent of obstruction. As regard the relation between IPAs obstruction and coronary arteries obstruction, our results showed a significant correlation between right coronary obstruction and each of right IPA and mean IPA obstruction.
