RETROSPECTIVE ANALYSIS OF CLINICOPATHOLOGIC AND MANAGEMENT ASPECTS OF SOFT TISSUE SARCOMA

Rana El -Sayed Mohamed Mohamed Hegazy;

Abstract

Soft-tissue sarcomas (STS) are a heterogeneous group of tumors that mainly arise from embryonic mesoderm. STS are uncommon tumor group that represents approximately 1% of adult cancers
STS is best treated by multidisciplinary teams specialized in the management of these tumors.
Surgery is the mainstay of treatment in localized adult STS. The aim is the excision of the tumor surrounded by a cuff of healthy tissue all around, in order to have free resection margins.
Cytotoxic chemotherapy has been the mainstay therapy for treating advanced-stage STS.
This study is a retrospective analysis of 92 patients with STS presented to Clinical oncology department at Ain-Shams University hospitals. All patients’ records in the period from 2011 to 2017 were reviewed.
In our study, many of the parameters addressed were found to be similar to worldwide incidences with little variations.
On analysis of different prognostic factors, younger age at time of diagnosis was found to have better overall survival. Histopathological subtype and site of metastasis was also found to influence OS.
Survival analysis was performed using Kaplan- Meier method for overall survival (OS) and median PFS.
