Abstract
Family planning implies the ability of individuals and couples to anticipate and attain their desired number of children through the spacing and timing of their births, achieved through the use of contraception methods and the treatment of involuntary infertility.
Globally, nearly two-thirds of women in their first postpartum year have inadequate contraception. 13 % of currently married women in Egypt are considered as having an unmet need for family planning.
Postpartum contraception is undergoing major changes, not only in timing, but also in content. The traditional paradigm of starting contraception at a woman’s 6 weeks postpartum visit has been revolutionized, as the emphasis is shifting to providing women with the most effective methods as soon as possible postpartum.
