Effectiveness of Two Dressing Techniques On the Healing of Recent Moderately Burn Wounds

Abstract


This study was carried out in order to compare the effectiveness of two dressing techniques wet exposed dressing technique with Beta-sitosterol ointment versus dry dressing technique with povidone - iodine 10% on the healing process of moderate burns.
The study was conducted at the burn unit of Tanta Causality University hospital. The sample comprised 45 patients, having moderate uncomplicated burn injuries. The subjects were distributed into three groups. Two experimental groups and a control group 15 patients in each group.
Data was collected using two tools ,tool one patient's Admission Sheet which was used to assess patient biodemographic characteristics, burn parameters and type of dressing technique. Tool two Wound Healing Evaluation sheet which comprised three patts (1) laboratory studies, (a) Bacteriological wound culture, (b) histological wound biopsy (2) wound healing observation check list, (3) photographic pictures.
Patient's admission sheet was used upon admission for patient with recent burn using the personal interview and checklist. Wound healing evaluation \Vas observed by the 'researcher using the checklist and from admission and during 4 weeks. Data was collected within a 12 months period.
The data analyzed and tabulated using frequency distribution, analysis of
variance (ANOVA) F-test, t-test and X2
test.
The largest percentage of the patients 86.7% were treated with the drv closed technique and were in the early adult age group 18-30 years of age, 60% of sample were males.
