Abstract

A total of 160 freshly caught marine fish samples; representing of sardine (Sardinella madevensis), saums (Saurida undosquamis), pargus (Pagellus acame) and mullus (Mullus barbatus) (40 of each) were collected from Giza Governorate and examined bacteriologically to determine total aerobic plate count at 7 °C (psychrotrophic count), Aeromonas species count, Pseudomonas spp. count, psychrotrophic Enterobacteriaceae count and Vibrio parahaemolyticus count as well as identification of Aeromonas hydrophila , Pseudomonas aetuginosa and identification of Enterobacteriaceae isolates.
The bacterial examination were done for swab and muscle samples offish (20 of each).
The averages counts of psychrotrophic, Aeromonas, Pseudomonas,

psychrotrophic Enterobacteriaceae and Vibrio parahaemolyticus in swab
•' ..
samples of sardine were 9.2xl0, ± 1.9xl0°' , 1.4x10', ± 7.6xl02, 1.2xl04 ±

6.7xl03, 1.5xl03 ± 1.8xl02 ,and 3.9x102 ± l.lxl02 organisms /cm2 , while the average in muscle samples were 7x103 ± 1.6xl03 , 9.5xl02 ± 3.2xl02,
8.6xl03 ± 2xl02 , 1.3xl03 ± 1.6xl02 and 2xl02 ± 8.lxl0 organisms /g.

In Saums, the average counts of psychrotrophic, Aeromonas, Pseudomonas, psychrotrophic •Enterobacteriaceae and Vibrio parahaemolyticus in swab samples of sardine were 8.2xl0 3 ± 1.9xl03,
1.3xl03 ± 6.7xHi, 9.7xl03 ± 5.1xl02 , 1.3xl03 ± 1.7xl02 and 3.lxl02 ±

9.3xl0 organisms /cm2 .
