EFFECT OF INTRAVENOUS INJECTION OF MAGNESIUM SULPHATE BEFORE PANCURONIUM BROMIDE ON ITS TIME TO ONSET AND DURATION OF ACTION AS A MUSCLE RELAXANT

Abstract

This work was carried out on 40 adult patients, 20 of them received pancuronium bromide after induction of anaesthesia as a muscle relaxant (group n and the other group received i.v MgS04 one minute before pancuronium bromide. These patients were clinically free from any neuromuscular,

cardiopulmonary, or metabolic diseases.

The anaesthetic technique was as follows:­ Premedication: 0.05 mg!kg intramuscular midazolam one hour before surgery. Induction: Fentanyl lJ.lg/kg followed by a sleeping dose of thiopentone sodium 2.5% and the intubating dose of pancuronium bromide as a muscle relaxant (O.lmg!kg) m group I and preceeded by 60 mg!kg i.v MgS04 in group II, then IPPV with face mask till successful endotracheal intubation. Maintenance: by halothane 0.75-1.5% in 100% oxygen and ventilation will be controlled. The parameters studied in this work are:-
