PROSPECTIVE STUD OF LAPAROSCOPIC VERSUS OPEN COLONIC RESECTION FOR CARCINOMA

Abstract


This study was carried on two groups of patients with cancer colon, the first group was open resection of cancer colo10nd the second group
was laparoscopic resection.
Thirty seven patients were included in our work, 24 cases were submitted• to open colonic resection and 13 cases were submitted to laparoscopic colonic resection.
In the first group the age ranged between 24-82 years with a mean of 59.9167, while in the second group the age ranged between 31-81
years ,:Vith a mean of 59.9231.
Eighteen males and 19 females were found to have cancer colon in
the pr sent study, with male to female ratio 5:6 in operitypeand 7:6 in laparoscopic type.
The mam clinical manifestations of cancer colon were change of bowel habit, anemia, bleeding per rectum, abdominal colic and distention,
weight ; loss, abdominal mass, cachexia, intestinal obstruction and
peritonitis in that order of frequency.
