The Structural Geometries and Geological Evolution of the Detachment Plio-Pleistocene Fault Systems of the Eastern Nile Delta, Egypt

Mohamed Hussein Ahmed Saleh;

Abstract

The study area is located in the northeastern part of the offshore Nile Delta area within the perimeter of the Akhen/Temsah and Atoll fields as well as the Satis and Salamat discoveries with multi TCF gas bearing reservoirs that has been discovered to date. The area covers around 7,600 km2 and lies in a water depth between 50 to 500 meters. The structural complexity of the area is outstanding where it has passed through different structural deformation phases throughout its geologic history which is related to several extensional and compressional events took place throughout the Mesozoic-Cenozoic history of the Nile Delta area.
