Abstract


Coronary heart disease is the commonest from of heart disease
and the single most important cause of death in Egypt. There is unhomogenous distribution in the risk factors for ischaemic heart
d• isease between rural and urban areas could be attributed to
environmental, Socioeconomic and nutritional factors and appearance of new risk factors as lipid peroxidation , level of serum antioxidants, level
of homocystein, vitamin B12 and folate.
The aun of the present work was to assess the role of some
nutritional parameters, lipid peroxidation and life style in patients with ischemic heart disease in rural and urban communities in Egypt.
The study was conducted on 40 patients with ischemic heart disease as documented by history , clinical examination and ECG
I changes. Moreover , 30 healthy subjects of matched age and sex was
included as controls.
The patients and control subjects was divided into: G I 20 patients with IHD from urban area (Alexandria).
G II 20 patients with IHD from rural area (El Beheira).
G IIl 15 control subjects froin urban area (Alexandria).
G IV 15 control subjects from rural area (El Beheira).
All the patients and control subjects were free from hypertension , diabetes mellitus or any systemic vascular disease.
