Antimicrobial activity of Moringa oleifera extracts on selected bacterial pathogens and its application

Abstract


Plants have been an important source of natural products for human health, especially medicinal herbs to people who seek for remedies and health approaches from side effects caused by synthetic chemical, so it was necessary to renew and discover a new green ecofriendly drug.
Phytochemical screening of Moringa oleifera leaves different extract (aqueous, methanol and ethanol) indicated presence of secondary metabolites such as alkaloid; flavonoids, tannins and phenol making approved its antibacterial potentials.
In the present study Moringa oleifera leaves extracts showed antimicrobial activity against the growth of the gram positive and negative bacteria, drug resistant clinical strains specially toward the nine selected bacterial isolates (Escherichia coli ATCC 10536, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 9027, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 29737 and Staph epidermidis ATCC 12228, Bacillus pumilis ATCC 14884, Micrococcus luteus ATCC 10240, Bordetella sp, Bacillus subtilis and Klebsiella sp.
