Abstract


Academic integrity involves creating and expressing own ideas in coursework, acknowledging all sources of information, completing assignments independently or acknowledging collaboration, accurately reporting results when conducting own research or with respect to labs, and honesty during examinations. In addition, intellectual contributions from others must be responsibly acknowledged (Dill & Beerkens, 2013).
Promoting academic integrity environment and counter academic integrity failures, academics need to understand the factors associated with breaches of academic integrity. The four most common reasons indicated by students for engaging in breaches of academic integrity are first, related to assessment items, e.g., assessment is seen to be too difficult or too easy or in addition, time consuming or the due date competes with other tasks. Second, to help a friend at risk. Third, the misunderstanding of what is and is not a breach. Fourth is the perception of students that risks and negative consequences of their actions are low (Guo, 2011).
