Abstract

The present study was carried out on 190 Holstein Friesian cows kept at El-Salhia project - Ismailia province. Their age ranged between
2.5 - 10 years and their parity ranged from 1-8. They were kept under the same nutritional and managemental conditions during tl:period of the
study.

The breeding history of all investigated cows was obtained from the farm records including . all the parturient events and postpartum complication. The cows were subjected to clinical and gynaecological examination, the chronic endometritis was classified according to the size and consistency of the uterus and nature and amount of vaginal discharge into first (mucoid), second (mucupurulent) and third (purulent) degree of endometritis. Uterine swabs were taken from all the endometritic cows to determine the most prevalent microorganism in each degree of chronic endometritis. 170 cows had clinically obvious chronic endometritis and the remaining cows (n=20) was normal cyclic cows and were kept as a control healthy cows. Out of the endometritic cows, 146 had received different treatments and the other cows were kept as a control untreated
cows.

Blood samples were collected before treatment from the jugular

vein of all treated and control groups in a vacutainer tubes. A number of
\_,,
cows ( n =16) from the prostaglandin treated groups were selected to study the luteolytic effect of prostaglandin. Blood samples were collected from these selected cows at 0, (before treatment) 72 and 240 hours after treatment. Serum progesterone concentration was determined by radioiwmunoassy and its effect on the efficacy of treatment was studied.
