Biopsychosocial needs of patient after Liver transplantation during follow up period
Naiera Abd El Samad Ibrahim Mokbel;
Abstract
Liver transplantation is a lifesaving surgical procedure that is associated with improved longevity and enhanced quality of life. For several decades LT has been the accepted treatment for a gradually expanding variety of indications. Life expectancy improved over time, due to better surgical techniques and preoperative and postoperative care, with a five-year survival of about 70%, and a ten-year survival of about 60% (Denny, 2016).
Assessing the knowledge, patients’needs, and lifestyle practices help to identify the educational needs of liver transplant clients and their families, better understanding of the illness and lead to a healthy lifestyle as possible. In addition, modifying clients’ attitudes and behaviors could promote the disease control and enhance adherence to follow up and, in turn, result in early detection and treatment of disease reactivation and complications. What the patient needs to know helps the nurse to plan the teaching-learning process in health services with LT programs based on realistic priorities (Abdel-Ghany et al., 2016).
