Removal of some metal ions from water matrices using high performance separation technique and nano-sorbents

Mahmoud Ibrahim Ahmed Ibrahim Elserw;

Abstract

This chapter addresses the mechanism of microwave (MW). The different combinations of MW application in wastewater (WW) treatment, including MW alone, MW with oxidants, MW with catalyst and MW with advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) are discussed. Moreover, it is also focused on microwave environmental applications such as microwave-assisted synthesis, extraction of different substances and water treatment.
The different methods of synthesis of silica nanoparticles, its physicochemical properties and their surface modification by chemical reactions are also covered in this chapter. In addition, applications of modified silica nanoparticles in water treatment of heavy metals due to their toxicity, carcinogenic and harmful effects on the surrounding environment utilizing batch technique and microwave-assisted sorption are also included.
