ISOLATION AND CLONING OF SALT RESPONSIVE GENES FROM THE HALOPHILIC MICROORGANISMS

REHAM FOUAD MOSELHY AL-GOZYER;

Abstract

This study was conducted at the Genetic Engineering Research Department of VACSERA during the period of February 2013 to January 2016 with the aim of:
1. Isolation and Screening a number of Halophilic bacteria that have the potential to grow and survive in such highly saline environments.
2. Identification of these isolates at the morphological and molecular level (using 16S r RNA)
3. Isolation of salt responsive genes encoding for osmoprotectants such as: Glycine Betaine & Ectoine and isolation of the three genes responsible for the ectoine biosynthesizing EctA, EctB and EctC, using special medium. The accumulation of this amino acid (ectoine) makes the halophilic bacteria to grow and survive under salinity stress.
