Abstract

Wheat leaf rust (Puccinia recondita f. sp. tritici) is considered one of the most serious disease that limiting the wheat production under favorable . environmental conditions in Egypt.

Until now, use of resistance varieties is the most successful method to control this disease. Therefore, this investigation was carried out to
. • identify the leaf rust resistance genes in nine Giza wheat varieties i.e. Giza
'
144, Giza 155, Giza 157, Giza 160, Giza 162, Giza 163, Giza 164, Giza

165 and Giza 167.

The obtained results could be summarized as follows:

1-Seedling leaf rust resistance genes:

• The' obtained results showed that, the resistance in the wheat cultivar; Giza 162 to race SCDFQ was governed by the dominant gene Lr 10.

• While, the resistance in the four wheat cultivars; Giza 162, Giza 164,

Giza 165 and Giza 167 to race MCFLQ was governed by the
• dominant geneLr 16.

• Moreover, the wheat cultivars; Giza 157 and Giza 163 have two seedling resistance genes, one of them is Lr 16.

• Also, the results indicated that, the wheat cultivars; Giza 160, Giza

162. and Giza 164 have the adult plant resistance gene; Lr 24 when they tested with the physiologic race SCFPQ.

• While, the wheat cultivar Giza 155 has two genes for resistance one of them is Lr24
