COMPARISON OF THE EFFECTS OF CAUDAL BUPIVACAINE AND A MIXTURE OF BOTH BUPIVACAINE AND MIDAZOLAM IN PAEDIATRIC SURGERY

Abstract

This study was carried out in tile Alexandria University Hospitals on

30 paediatric patients undergoing lower abdominal or genitourinary operations. . I The patients were grouped into 2 groups, each group included 15 patients:-

They received ca\'ldal injection of plain bupivacaine

0.33% in a dose of lmllkg.

Group II They received a mixture of both midazolam 50 tg/kg

l' + Bupivacaine 0.33'% in the same volume of 1 ml I kg.

There were no significant diffet;ences between the two groups w

regards ages and weights.

Evaluation of the patients was carrieq out through proper history taking, thorough clinical examination and laboratory investigations.

Premedication : .•• .. -:

Diazepam (valium) 0.1 -0.15 mg/kg orally 60-90 minutes before induction

and atropine 0.01 lllg/kg LV 5 minutes before induction.
