The study of Prognostic Factors in Resistant Spontaneous Bacterial Peritonitis in Cirrhotic Patients
Salma Gamal Mohammed;
Abstract
ABSTRACT
Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) is defined as acute infection of ascitc fluid without any identifiable surgically treatable intra-abdominal source. SBP is a frequent, life-threatening bacterial infection in patients with liver cirrhosis and ascites. Many clinicians and current guidelines recommend using clinical signs of improvement or a 25–50% decrease in ascitic fluid PMN cell count after 2 days of antibiotic treatment to document response to therapy
