ASSESSMENT OF LOCALLY MANUFACTUREDSTAINLESS STEEL SCREW- PLATE SYSTEM IN THE TREATMENT OF MANDIBULAR FRACTURES (EXPERIMENTAL STUDY)

Abstract
In the present study , we examined the stability and the healing of induced mandibular fractures in dogs after fixation with the locally manufactured stainless steel compression plates and screws versus fixation with the ready-made stainless steel compression system.
The plates and screws were both manufactured from the
316L stainless steel type as compression plates (eccentric dynamic type) with six holes , four as axial compression holes and two as angled or vertical holes. Dimensions of the plates were 52 mm in length, 8 mm in width, and 2 mm in thickness, similar to the ready-made plates.
The screws were lathed from a stainless steel roll of 7. 5- mm diameter. The screws were not self- tapping and had wide threads, which were extended completely to their ends. They were designed with diagonal heads. Dimensions of screws were 10 mm in length and 2.7 mm in diameter , similar to the ready-made screws.
Sixteen healthy adult mongrel dogs were selected and divided into two equal groups with each group having eight dogs.
