EVALUATION OF THE EFFECT OF PLATLET GEL TOGETHER WITH HYDROXYAPATITE ON HEALING AFTER SURGICAL REMOVAL OF IMPACTED MANDIBULAR THIRD MOLAR

Abstract


In this study the aim is to evaluate the use of platelet gel mixed with hydroxyapatite on healing after removal of impacted mandibular third molar. The surgical procedure was performed under local anaethesia.


Twenty adult patients were selected. 7 males and 13 females ranging from 18 - 30 years of age, they were free from any medical problem that would contraindicate surgical intervention or affect the healing of the surgical wound.


Patients were equally divided into two groups :

Study group : Ten patients undergo surgical extraction of impacted mandibular third molar and hydroxyapatite mixed with platelet gel was inserted in the socket.


Control group : Ten patients undergo surgical extraction of impacted mandibular third molar socket was left empty.



Post operative antibiotic and analgesics were prescribed.


Proper oral hygiene were maintained by instructing the patients to use warm saline as mouth wash after 24 hrs and daily. The stitches were removed after 7- I 0 days.


The two groups were compared using the following parameters :
