Comparative study of vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) in normal subjects and in chronic hepatitis C virus patients.
Adham Rashed Mohamed Abdel Hamid;
Abstract
The role of VCAM-1, one of adhesion molecules that expressed on endothelial cells, in the initiation of adaptive immune response and inflammatory process have been among the most exciting recent topic in immunity.
VCAM-1 is a membrane glycoprotein that appears to play a crucial role in chronic inflammations. The present work aimed to study the role of VCAM-1 in chronic HCV infection which • has • a high prevalence rate in Egypt nowadays that induce a chronic carrier state (50-
85%) leading to serious long term clinical sequalae, so it is considered now as a major puplic health problem in Egypt.
This study was carried on 35 subjects (19 males, 16 females), their ages ranged between 25-45 years and they were divided into 2 groups.
Group 1: (fifteen subjects) Normal, healthy individuals served as a control group.
