PROCESSING OF KALABSHA KAOLIN TO SEPARATE KAOLINITE FROM COARSE SILICA PARTICLES

Aref Abdallah Siddig Abdallah;

Abstract

The aim of this thesis is to produce sand and kaolin concentrates from kaolinitic sand deposit from Wadi Kalabasha, southwest Aswan. The ore was characterized by x-ray fluorescence (XRF), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), polarizing microscope, and microscopic analysis. Attrition Scrubbing followed by dry and wet magnetic separation was conducted for coarse particle (Sand), and for fine size product (kaolinite), respectively. Finally, leaching by HCl, and bleaching with Sodium dithionite were tested to get rid of coloring materials for of both sand and kaolin.
