TRANSRECTAL ENDOSONOGRAPHIC MEASUREMENTS OF TRANSITION ZONE OF PROSTATE IN BENING PROSTATIC HYPERPLASIA

Abstract

In this work , a comparison between transrectal endosonographic measurements of the transition zone in patients with and without sonographic evidence of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) was studied on 40 patients of different ages. Patients were classified into two groups. Group (A) included twenty (20) patients with sonographically apparent BPH, and group (B) included another twenty patients with neither clinical nor sonographic evidence of BPI-I.

We measured the transverse, longitudinal, and posteroanterior diameters and calculated the volume of the transition zone and of the whole prostate gland in each patient.
