High MELD score in predicting short-term mortality after living donor liver transplantation

Ahmed Hamdy Abdeen;

Abstract

LDLT is an effective lifesaving procedure for patients with end-stage liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma of the liver. The demand for right lobe LDLT in Egypt will continue to increase due to of absence of cadaveric organ transplantation in Egypt accompanied by high prevalence of post hepatitis end stage liver disease in Egypt. Also the increasing knowledge of doctors and patients and their acceptance of the procedure have been reflected on the increased waiting lists for patients waiting for LDLT. Although stem cell transplantation may be the hope to avoid such procedure but until then liver transplantation is our only hope
