Outcome of Nissen Fundoplication Surgery for Neonates & Infant with Gastero-Esophageal Reflux Disease in Ain Shams University Hospitals
Mohamed Salah Mohamed Elshafey;
Abstract
Surgical management of GERD typically becomes
necessary in presence of GER complications and/or failed
medical therapy. According to a larger scale US study
fundoplication effectively improved symptoms of GERD in
94% of the 7,000 children with GERD. However, few studies
have been performed in infants, and the benefits of surgery
for those aged <12 months are not clearly defined..Because
of the low incidence of this disease, only few studies on
fundoplication has been performed in children with primary
and secondary GERD in Egypt.
Thirteen patients with GERD disease were included in
this study who presented to ain shams university children
hospital.
Data in the medical records are reviewed including
clinical history, examination, radiological investigation:
contrast swallow and meal, surgical procedure and follow up
