Rana Mahmoud Sedky;
Abstract
oronary artery disease has become the leading contributor to the burden of disease worldwide, as assessed on the basis of disability-adjusted life-years. In Egypt, it is responsible for 21% of deaths and reported a prevalence of 8.3%. It is a complex, multifactorial, silent progressive disease, caused by multiple genetic variants in combination with various environmental and lifestyle factors. CAD is characterized by long-term atheromatous plaque formation which culminates into athero-thrombotic obstructive lesions leading to tissue damage.
