Abstract

he elderly population numbers are increasing in all over the world and especially in developing countries including Egypt as their life expectancy is increasing due the development of the health services provided. Elderly population are higher risk in developing health problems than other population groups so addressing the complicated health needs for elderly patients through a multidisciplinary team is crucial for early identifying and planning for the needed health care service for the acutely hospitalized elderly.
One of the major complications in the hospitalization of elderly patients is the rapid decline in functional level due to their major health complaint and decreased functional reserve and poor nutritional status. So, taking in consideration these factors is crucial in the process of planning the course of hospitalization for elderly patients.
Different prognostic indices have been implemented to predict the length of hospital stay and mortality in acutely ill patients. The multi-dimensional prognostic index a one of the newer prognostic indices with more generalized approach and based on the comprehensive geriatric assessment shown a lot of potential importance in predicting the trajectory hospitalized elderly with excellent specificity and sensitivity as shown in the current study.
