LATTICE BOLTZMANN METHOD FOR FLOW ANALYSIS IN SUBSONIC AXIAL COMPRESSOR

Mohammad Ibrahim Mobarak;

Abstract

In the thesis, a Lattice Boltzmann Model was built and validated for both laminar and turbulent fluid flows with Reynold’s number ranging from 14,000 to 2,880,000 using a combined LBM Smagorinsky Large Eddy Simulation (LBMLES) Turbulence model and apply it to model flow in turbomachinery. Additionally, the developed LBM model was applied to investigate the flow inside a subsonic axial compressor, innovatively, this is the first time to be achieved in literature using LBM. Finally, the flow field was validated, visualized, and the available turbomachinery parameters were studied for different operating conditions.
