EFFECT OF DIAZEPAM ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEURONS OF THE CHICK EMBRYO

Rania Mohamed Abdel Aal Shamekh;

Abstract

The aim of the present work was to investigate the neuronal growth promotion after a non-toxic dose of diazepam. It was also decided to study the possible toxic effect of two successive non-lethal doses of diazepam on the neurons of the dorsal root ganglion and anterior hom cells in the lower cervical region.
This study was carried on two hundred and sixty fresh fertilized leghom eggs, obtained from a specialized farm in Cairo. They were incubated in an electric incubator at 37°C (+
0.5°C) and under proper humidity with daily rotation. The start
of incubation was designated day one. The dose of diazepam was (O.Olmg/embryo)(egg).
The eggs were divided into the following groups:
**Group I (control group): Sixty eggs instilled with 0.1 mL
saline per embryo using a tuberculin syringe as follows:
*Subgroup/: Twenty eggs were instilled on the seventh day.
*Subgroup II: Twenty eggs were instilled
on the seventh & on the tenth days.
*Subgroup Ill: Twenty eggs were instilled on the 14 day.
One half of the eggs (30 eggs) were opened on the 18th day, and the embryos were extracted. This was control group IA, that comprised 3 subgroups.
