The Influence of the MDR1 C3435T Polymorphism on Methotrexate Responsiveness in Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients

Sara Salem Tolba Eissa;

Abstract

Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, progressive, autoimmune inflammatory disease with articular and systemic effects and is associated with substantial disability and increased mortality. Of the several Disease-Modifying Antirheumatic Drugs available, the folate antagonist methotrexate has become one of the most commonly used drugs and the first choice to treat RA due to its affordability and efficacy in reducing symptoms in most RA patients. However, clinical response to MTX varies considerably among patients.
