Evaluation of traumatic and non-traumatic upper limb muscloskeletal disorders by dynamic ultrasound

Shaimaa Mohamed Mansour Abdel Aziz;

Abstract

Dynamic ultrasound is a good alternative to other radiological methods as static MRI, for diagnosis tendon and joints pathology.
High resolution ultrasound can be used as first line of examination, and if no abnormalities could be detected by it and the patient is still complaining, complementary MRI should be done. If ultrasound findings are positive and are going with the patient clinical diagnosis, no further investigation is needed.
US is highly sensitive and specific in detection of upper limb muscloskeletal disorders in correlation to MRI as in:
Shoulder joint:
Subacromial impaingment.
LHB subluxation/dislocation.
Adhesice capsulitis.
Elbow joint :
Snapping tirceps/ ulnar nerve subluxation.
Ulnar collateral ligment injury.
Wrist joint and hand:
Extensor carpi ulnaris subluxation.
Trigger finger.
Dupuytren’s contracture.
