Study of High Gamma Glutamyl Transferase Cholestasis In Egyptian Children

S
tudy included 40 patients, attending hepatology clinic, pediatric Department at Ain Shams University Hospitals and Yassin Abdel-Ghaffar Charity Center for Liver Disease and Research; both are tertiary centers at Cairo.
. Their files were reviewed for demographic data anthropometric measures, clinical picture, investigations, diagnosis, treatment and outcome.
Data were collected and analyzed and the results are as following: There were 27 males (67.5%) and 13 females (32.5%). Their ages at last follow up ranged from 1.5 to 17 years with median of 5.5 years. The duration of follow up of the patients at the center ranged from 3 months to 13 years with median of 4 years. The age of onset of the disease ranged from day 1 to 2.5 years with median of 6 months. Consanguinous marriage was present in 15 patients (37.5%), and 13 of them (32.5%) had family history of the same condition. 25 patients (62.5%) were diagnosed with PFIC 3 while 15 patients (37.5%) with Alagille syndrome.
