Value of Short Chain Fatty Acid in Stool in Diagnosis of Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Abstract


Irritable bowel syndrome is a functional gastrointestinal disorder characterized by abdominal pain and altered bowel habit in absence of a specific or unique organic pathology, although it may be associated with psychological manifestations, and within 1 year,75% of patients change subtypes, and 29% switch between constipation predominant IBS and diarrhea predominant IBS. So patients develops fear that their manifestations may be due to serious conditions. Physicians depend on numerous laboratory and radiological investigations and invasive procedures to establish diagnosis of IBS.
