Role of MSCT in Diagnosis of Interstitial Lung Disease in Children

Ahmed Abd El Wahab Abd El Salam Matar;

Abstract

Children interstitial lung diseses (CHILD) is a heterogeneous group of disorders that overlap with ILD seen in adults, Some are primary lung disorders while others are associated with systemic disease processes. A systematic approach that includes a thorough history and physical exam, and selected use of MSCT is valuable for accurate diagnosis. Careful attention to technique is necessary to obtain high-quality chest imaging studies of children with suspected diffuse lung disease. Proper interpretation of these studies requires familiarity with the imaging features of the various forms of chILD, some of which exhibit a characteristic pattern that allows a specific diagnosis to be made, while others manifest with a nonspecific appearance requiring further investigation for a definitive diagnosis. MSCT continues to be the preferred imaging study for the initial evaluation of suspected child.
